Byrum “Moot” Lee: Cowboy Poet, Rancher, Attorney and Storyteller.

Born and raised in Texas, Byrum—known as “Moot” to his friends—was steeped in the spirit of the Cowboy Way from an early age. He spent his youth working ranches, roping and branding cattle, with a few rugged stints in the oil patch along the way. In college, he joined the rodeo team, though he’ll tell you himself he rarely made it past slack.

His love of poetry and music runs deep, a legacy from his father, who once played horns with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Even through six years of service in the U.S. Air Force and a later career in law, Byrum always kept one foot in the stirrup—never straying far from the life that shaped him.

As a partner in one of Colorado’s largest ranches, his connection to the rodeo cowboy’s life only grew stronger. His poem “Ain’t Giving Up Hope” was published by the Cowboy Society of America, earning him an invitation to perform at the Cowboy Poet’s Gathering in Reno, Nevada. Sharing the stage with legends like Baxter Black, Byrum faced down his nerves and delivered his words with heart.

Reve Records is proud to collaborate with Byrum on transforming his evocative poem “Rodeo Cowboy” into a powerful new song. The track is featured on the latest release, Real Country, by the Sin City Ensemble—a tribute to grit, heart, and the spirit of the West.
